Learners must be a minimum of 14 years of age, or turning 14 in the calendar within which the course is to be held, in order to participate in this course.
This course is open to enrolments for Australian citizens and permanent residents.
This course is not available to individuals visiting Australia on a Student Visa.

This course will enhance personal survival skills while providing the knowledge and skills to develop the level of judgement, technique and physical ability required to safely carry out water rescues.
This course contains delivery and assessment of the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Upon successful completion of the course learners may be eligible to receive a Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) Statement of Attainment with the following unit/s of competency:
- HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- SISCAQU002 Perform Basic Water Rescues
A basic underpinning knowledge of English language, literacy and numeracy is required for successful completion of the learning and assessment activities within this course. The course is delivered in English. Learners who experience language and/or literacy difficulties may identify/request additional learning support through the enrolment process. There are no academic prerequisites for this course
Practical application of Resuscitation and First Aid skills requires a significant amount of bending and movement between standing and sitting/kneeling positions at floor level. Learners are required to complete the practical assessment activities as per the conditions stipulated with the Unit of Competency in order to successfully achieve a vocational outcome (Statement of Attainment – required level of workplace qualification). An intermediate level of flexibility and agility is recommended. Learners who are unsure of their ability to complete practical activities should consult with a General Practitioner prior to enrolment.
Practical application of water rescue skills requires a significant amount of time spent in the water and continuous physical aquatic activity. An intermediate level of aquatic fitness is recommended. Learners who are unsure of their ability to complete practical activities should consult with a General Practitioner prior to enrolment.
Before the Course
No assessment activities are conducted prior to the course commencement
At the Course
Practical contextualised simulation activities for:
- Aquatic emergency recognition, aquatic emergency response, aquatic casualty assessment, and communication in an aquatic emergency including injury and incident reporting;
- Resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation following DRSABCD principles;
- Safe handling and infection control practices;
All as described within the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.
- 400m continuous swim within 13 minutes;
- 100m swim/tow within 3mins/15secs;
- Knowledge assessment through multiple choice questionnaire.
After the Course
There are no post-course assessment requirements
Withdrawals and Refunds
Any enrolments cancelled prior to two - five (2-5) working days of course commencement participants will receive a 75% refund.
It is regrettable that no refund can be made if written advice is not received prior to this time frame.
In the event of a course being cancelled due to insufficient enrolments, you will be offered a full refund or you may elect to transfer to another course.
No refund will be offered to an enrolment cancelled within two (2) working days of the course commencement.
Any course not attended will forfeit all payments made.
Refunds are subject to returning pre-learning materials unused, in their original condition.
